 1.) GET THE FACTS

Poverty: Nigeria has the world’s largest population of people still in extreme poverty. As a result of poverty, young people in Nigeria are at incredibly high risk of being taken advantage of. (More Info)

Human Trafficking: Due to the hardship in Nigeria there is the constant danger of youth being lured into human trafficking. Many times, parents and adolescents are lead to believe the young person is being offered work or further education outside of the country, but are instead kidnapped and sold into slavery. (More Info)

Money Rituals/ Body Rituals: Money rituals (as people refer to them in Nigeria) occur when trafficking victims are murdered and their body parts sold to local witch-doctors or on the organ black market for profit . Local witch-doctors pay high prices for these body parts because their clientele believe these rituals will bring them more fame, power, or wealth. (More Info)

Hunger Weaponization: The weaponization of hunger is prolific in Nigeria. Many people in Nigeria are so hungry they are willing to kill for food. Because of this, warlords and other local regimes promise food to recruit youth (from ages 10+) for terrorism, child-soldiers, and other political & militaristic purposes.

Education: In Nigeria, government-sponsored education has largely failed. (School buildings have no chairs, furniture, and are often dilapidated. There are no government funds allocated to education). Only those with wealth can afford to send their children to good schools. This leaves impoverished youth vulnerable to the exploitation of those with ill-motives.

HIV/AIDS: In the last 10 years, advocation and education about HIV/AIDS has all but stopped in Nigeria. This leaves young people vulnerable and unable to protect themselves from this growing threat. (More Info)
